Ice, Ice, Ice

December 7th, 2008

Hello fellow fishermen and women,
Another brutally cold night has made more ice in North Central WI. With all the low temps we have been having, our "early" ice has come and gone in a relatively fast manner. Two years ago we were still fishing in boats and today Pelican has from 6 to 9 inches of ice everywhere. It looks like a great start to a long and hopefully prosperous fishing season. Good luck to all!!
St Paul Ice Fishing Show...........
For us the show was a tremendous success. All of our major sponsors have comitted again for the 09 event and we are very proud to report that Humminbird has joined the lineup!!! Now we will have 10 of the newest Humminbird locators on the market in our main prize lineup.......... Walleye Dans guide service in Brainerd, MN has also comitted his services for providing us with all the Arctic Armor gear we could possibly need. The goal is to have Dan on ice with us and as we hand out the prize vouchers the winners will be custom fitted from head to toe with Arctic Armor!!!! Another truly remarkable product. As for Jiffy and Frabill, they always come thru. 20 Jiffy 2hp augers and 10 Frabill 2 man shelters, excellent. Not to mention all the door prizes..... Ice scoops, tip-up lights, hats, tip-ups, jig poles, Ice Riggers, chisels, and on and on and on.
Looking like another great event on tap with huge odds of winning something big!!!!! From $25,000 cash to a new Humminbird flasher, there's not a bad prize in the lineup. We'll see you on the ice!!!
Now get out there and catch some fish!!!!!

Reflection

November 19th, 2008

Hi all,
Another cold night on tap in the northwoods. Wood fire stoked and thoughts of the coming deer season in my head. Paradice!!!
Just sitting here reviewing our next tournament and noticing where everyone is coming from. Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Florida, New York, and Michigan. WOW!! Six years ago we started planning and five years ago we had our first event. Alot has changed since that first day when we had no idea what we were getting in to. We literally could not comprehend what was coming our way. All the planning, plowing, making ice, logistics, sponsors, happy people, sad people, and on and on and on.
Basically just wanted to thank everyone who has participated since the beginning. Both fishermen and workers, we couldn't have do it without either one. Hats off to you!
Wish everyone the best of luck for deer season and we'll see you on the ice.

A Change in the Seasons

November 15th, 2008

With the cold and the snow many hunters and fishermen are changing their tactics for the season. Ducks in the north seem to be gone, Grouse hunters have moved to the pines, deer hunters are getting stands ready, and fishermen are readying their tip-ups. Ice is near and we can't wait.
I have pretty well wrapped up waterfowling and am starting to chase whitetails. Pretty slow results with the bow so far but I'll keep trying till the end. Never know, with a little luck rifle season might be good too.
First ice will be the big attraction of the year. The crew I fish with is beside themselves with anticipation. Eary ice is what we live for and I know the walleye's aren't far off.
For now we'll hunt deer, with thoughts of ice in our heads.

Tickets and Hunting

November 4th, 2008

Hi all,
Ticket sales went completely crazy the first day. With mail orders, internet sales, and phone sales, we sold about 250 tickets in the first 24 hours. For us thats a good first day. We look forward to a sold out event.
The ducks seemed to be one step ahead of us on Sat and we didn't manage to kill a one. Looked like the larger flocks that we were watching midweek moved out sometime Friday. Oh well, thats hunting. We'll try again.
Unusually warm temps across Wi this week have made it not feel like hunting weather so work around the house has been on tap. Get the "honey do" list knocked down a little and head back to the field Wed for some jump shooting on a local river. Hopefully this goes better than Saturday's hunt.
Good luck wherever your trail takes you.

Welcome to the new Pelican Lake Ice Fishing Tournament

October 29th, 2008

In this area I will periodically update everyone as to the conditions in the Pelican Lake area. The topics discussed here will be wide spread from ice and fishing conditions, to hunting reports and snow conditions. Anything outdoor related may be written about in this section.

Right now is a dynamic time of year in the northwoods of WI. We are currently experiencing some of the coldest nights of the year and the seasons are changing fast. Leaves are gone, lakes have turned over, and snow is just around the corner. Simply put, a sportsmans paradice!
Although a paradice, too many choices for the avid sportsman. Ducks, grouse, deer, muskies, salmon. The choices are many but this fall I am concentrating on waterfowl. With a closed Canvasback season our trip to the Mississippi is canceled so we have concentrated our efforts on the northwoods. Early season was incredibe with tons of birds around and plenty of action. The geese came in droves and are still coming thru sporadically. Now we switch tactics and chase the migrators as they pass thru. Too early to report on those but stay tuned as the weather changes and hopefully I have great reports. Saturday will be the next attempt and today's scouting showed high numbers of divers on a local lake. With any luck, we should produce!
Good luck to all on your many trips afield.
Jason
